Climate Projects

LW&P develops and reviews accounting approaches for climate mitigation and carbon removal projects. Key aspects include baseline setting, additionality, project emissions, leakage, permanence, uncertainty and monitoring.

Reliable sustainability assessment requires more than a calculation. We follow a structured, step-by-step process — from defining the right question and system boundaries to robust modeling, reporting, communication and external review.

Scope
Define the assessment framework.
We start with a half-day online scoping workshop to define the assessment objective, functional unit, system boundaries, methodological framework, data requirements and intended use of the results.

Collect & assess data
Build a robust data basis.
We collect activity data and emission factors, establish a structured data inventory and assess data quality, completeness and representativeness.

Build the model
Develop a transparent LCA model.
We develop the Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) based on transparent input/output flows and model the relevant processes, products and value chains in an appropriate software.

Assess impacts
Quantify potential environmental impacts.
We quantify potential environmental impacts through Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA), applying appropriate impact assessment methods and indicators.

Document & discuss
Provide transparent results.
We prepare a transparent technical report covering methodology, data, assumptions, limitations and results, followed by an online presentation and discussion of the findings.

Translate results into deliverables
One assessment – multiple outputs.
The assessment provides the technical basis for further deliverables — including EPDs and other program-specific reports, technical summaries for decision-makers, and accessible, evidence-based communication for external audiences in line with applicable requirements, including EmpCo.

Incorporate changes and finalize the assessment.
Assessments often evolve as processes, recipes or data change. Our approach therefore includes two iterations to incorporate relevant changes and finalize a consistent assessment.
